Dominican Republic downs Canada in three sets

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico, September 22, 2009 – Dominican Republic defeated Canada in consecutive frames by score of 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 in the first match of Pool A of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum.

Prisilla Rivera and Milagros Cabral topped the Dominican offense with 15 and 12 points respectively and Lisvel Eve and Altagracia Mambru added 9 and 8. Tammy Mahon and Tiffany Dodds charted 15 and 11 points for Canada.

“We know Canada and prepared well for them,” said Marcos Kwiek, the coach of Dominican Republic. “I think the 3-0 result means that our study of the videos and our game plan worked properly.”

“Dominican Republic played very well and we couldn’t stop their captain number 10 (Cabral),” said Arnd Ludwig, the coach of Canada. “We didn’t have precision in our reception and that facilitated their blocking. We were in front 9-2 in the second set and allowed them to come back.”
